DOSTA THEATRE
122 N. Ashley Street
The Dosta Theatre was built in 1940-1941 and opened in the spring of 1941. The theatre was built on the spot where two stores, Lazarus Bros. Dept. Store and Rice's Cafe, burned in 1939. The Art Moderne style building is reflective of the sobering Depression, stripped of most ornamentation and including an obsession with smooth wall surfaces and other stylized and geometric motifs. Presently serves as the home of Theatre Guild-Valdosta.
